Raft
Cove Trail is located near Holberg
on North Vancouver Island. Isolated
on the northwest coast of Vancouver Island, south of Cape Scott
Provincial Park, the wonderfully scenic Raft
Cove Provincial Park is distinguished by its 1.3 km length of
open beach.
The cove offers little protection from the winds, and the Pacific
surf mercilessly pounds its shores. The Macjack River meanders into
the ocean at the south end of the beach.
A narrow but
forested peninsula separates the Pacific on the west from the Macjack
on the east. During low tides, shore walks can be made both north
and south of Raft Cove.
An easy 2.2 km walk is possible to the south, where small islands
of jagged tidal rock stand in sharp contrast to the sands of Raft
Cove.
From the town
of Holberg head north following
the signs to "Ronning 700". A recently constructed logging
road has made Raft Cove accessible by a new 1.2 km route that takes
45 minutes to hike.
