Subject:Trip to Vancouver

Hi all. I know there is SO much to see on Vancouver Island, but could someone please advise if it makes sense to go to Vancouver Island on a day trip if I am spending 5 days in Vancouver? I'd been there LONG ago and loved it and want to go back, but not sure if a day trip (go on ferry early morning and leave late evening same day) makes sense.
